The most basic distinction between beers is the difference between lagers and ales, not difference in color. Gordon Biersch brews mostly lagers by using fermenting yeasts that are stored for 5 weeks after brewing which gives it a smooth and crisp flavor. Most Ales are fruity and complex in flavor made from top fermenting yeasts stored for only two weeks.
